Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR) and Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Fountain, hosted representatives from local media Tuesday, including Chris Walker from The event was held to introduce the new partnership between Bondurant and PPIR.

In addition to answering questions about the driving school, attendees were given some brief instruction, taken on drive-alongs at speeds topping 120mph, and even got to do some driving themselves (closer to 80mph) around the track in Bondurant’s fleet of Pontiac Solstices.

The Bondurant school in Chandler Arizona was founded by very successful retired racer, Bob Bondurant in 1968. At that facility, you can learn not only high speed driving techniques, but things like how to survive an attack, take out/pit manuevers, reverse 180’s, what to do if you’re in the passenger seat and the driver dies! and lots more.

The PPIR location purports to offer “an adrenalized performance driving experience like no other”. Courses include Timed Autocross, Hot laps, Lead and Follow, ProKart Grand Prix, Accident Avoidance, Team Slolam and custom programs. Although they’ve only been officially open in Fountain for a few weeks, Bondurant is already looking to expand its offerings here including Teen Driving and Go Karts. They’ll also be working with sponsor, Chevrolet, to see if they can’t add some Camero’s to the fleet.

Programs include Team Building, Top Performance/Incentive Rewards, Product Launches, Charity Functions, Dinners, Banquets and Award Presentations, Client Appreciation Days and Birthday, Bachelor/Bachelorette parties.

Whether you’re training to be a professional racer, body guard, security professional, chauffer, want a treat employees, clients or customers to a great time or just want to experience the thrill of high performance driving for yourself, Bondurant is a great addition to the “things to do” list in the Pikes Peak region. It’s also a welcome and exciting addition to our local economy.

PPIR and Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, Fountain, are located at 16650 Midway Ranch Rd, Fountain, CO 80817

Peakview Windows and Siding recently introduced their own brand of siding to the area. The Peak Collection is especially designed to stand up to Pikes Peak area weather and climate.

Peakview owner, Shaun O’Laughlin (below) explains that the reason he’s done well even through the recession is in large part because he’s always focused on selling the best, as opposed to the cheapest. It makes good business sense. After all, getting business through repeat customers and referrals is a lot less expensive and more efficient than constantly needing to find new ones. He and his staff are certified by the Vinyl Siding Institute’s Certified Installer program, a continuing education program aimed at keeping professionals up to date on the proper and latest installation techniques. One advantage of having such certification is that Peakview can offer product with lifetime warranties that are fully transferrable upon sale of the home.

While he was happy with the quality of product from his suppliers, Shaun wanted to take it a step further. He started talking to siding manufacturer, Mastic Home Exteriors about a year ago, about developing a siding particularly geared to the Pikes Peak region. The result, the Pikes Peak Collection, is engineered for high altitudes, severe weather cycles, high winds and intense sun exposure.

For more information contact Peakview at 719-393-7325, visit the showroom at 5520 S. US Hwy 85/87, unit 109, or on the web at

Dick’s Rock Shop and Bead Store in Fountain, Colorado hopes to be in their new location and ready for business by the middle of next week. Their new home is at 594 S. Santa Fe Ave in Fountain, just north of Exit 128, across from the 7-11.

Dick’s Rock Shop has been a fixture in Fountain for nearly 34 years. From the website: “Dick's Rock Shop offers a wide variety of jewelry and accessories made from metals and stones. These include knick-knacks, figurines, bead crafting supplies, a huge selection of tumbled, polished, cut and faceted rocks and gemstones, mineral specimens, petrified woods and fossils and tons of "in the rough" rock for rock gardens or lawn accessorizing.”

The shop was founded by retired Army SSG Richard “Dick” Stearns and his wife Flossie. When Dick passed away in 2000 and Flossie two years later, Flossie’s sister, Diana Wing took it upon herself to keep the business going. At the time, the shop was located near Hwy 16 and Hwy 85/87. She was forced to relocate in 2007  when the interchange underwent massive renovation. She moved the operation to Ohio Ave in Fountain, a good location, but of course, no backyard to display boulders and large rocks in.

The new site offers more space inside and out and Diana hopes to bring back “the rock yard”, that is, a selection of large rocks, in the rough, at the store.

They’re also expanding their hours. They’ll be open Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. The phone number is the same: 719-390-7788 and you can find them on the web at

Look for an official Grand Opening around early June.
