SPECIAL OPERATIONS FOR THE EVERYDAY ADVENTURER
Charlotte-based business expands its reach to Colorado Springs

Press Release – On Saturday, 24 March, Charlotte, NC based SOF WODs will conduct a special operations style training and adventure challenge course in Colorado Springs, CO.  The Phase 1 course, called “The Gauntlet” offers a unique opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts, workout buffs and military hopefuls alike to partake in Spec Ops challenges with several objectives based on a single mission.

The Gauntlet fuses the concepts of military-style challenges with simulated Special Operations missions, culminating in a unparalleled physical and mental gut check. Designed and run by SOF Operators, Phase I is not a race, a workout or a gear testing ground; it is a team mission.  Participants must be prepared to take on the natural challenges of their host city while completing multiple objectives as a small unit.

Phase I will immerse participants into 18 hours of Special Operations selection style evolutions and Field Training Exercises (FTX) that are usually reserved for the military elite.  Participants will begin with skill clinics on various topics required to complete the city’s challenge, such as water confidence, swimming, proper running and rucking techniques. Skill training is supplemented with lectures on the essentials of good teamwork, leadership and mental fortitude. Once the stage is set, the mission will be briefed to team leaders, comms will be distributed, and it’s game on!

The Gauntlet will kick off at 0800 on Saturday, March 24th at Driven Strong Crossfit. Driven Strong Crossfit is located at 1107 Garden of the Gods Rd W., Colorado Springs, CO. For more information, call 602.423.4754.

Cowboy Espresso in Fountain, Colorado has new owners and is now Cowboy Espresso Cafe. Jim and Chris Hake purchased the shop from Terra Kraettli in February of this year and after taking a week to do a little remodeling, reopened on March 5, 2012. They held their official Grand Opening today.

The Chamber of Commerce was on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony earlier in the day and Maty of Maty’s Cooking served up lunch. Donna La Chey, of HillBilly Farms in Fountain, was also there. HillBilly Farm products, such as their own fresh eggs, jams, pickels and more, are now available at Cowboy Espresso.

Another line of products you’ll find there is Chris’s own brand of chocolates. Chris’s dad was stationed at SHAPE Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium when she was 13-years old. That where she learned to make chocolate treats. Her friends all told her she should sell her candies and in June 2011, she used it as the main attraction in a new catering business. It was a big hit. That was one factor in Jim and Chris’s decision to buy the coffee shop. It would be a great place to spotlight the line.

Jim explains that while they will make a few additions and changes and make the place their own, they also like to preserve local history and flavor. All of the menu items are still available, plus some new additions. For example there’s the Saturday morning waffle bar from 7 am to noon each week. The rest of the week the shop is open from 5am to 5pm Monday through Friday and closed Sunday.

Jim and Chris also want to use the shop as a showcase for locally produced goods and art. They’ve already hosted local jewelry shows and feature rotating art exhibits on the walls. They’re also available for things like book signings and network/business meetings. The shop has free wi-fi  if you just want to hang out and check your email as well.

The outside will also be getting a new look. The design that’s currently displayed on Cowboy Espresso business cards and flyers, an original design by Mike Reid, will become a mural on the outside wall facing the post office. The mural that’s currently on the outside wall will be photographed, framed and displayed inside the shop.
