Press Release

LuisJoe Ybarra Jr. is a 6th grader at Sproull Jr high in Security, Colorado. On his Christmas vacation he was still training for the upcoming Silver Glove regional Championship Tournament which was held on January 3rd-6th 2013 in Pasadena California.

Luisjoe had already won the Colorado State title in the first week of November and was looking towards to representing Colorado in region 8.  Some of the other States that competed were Hawaii, Utah, New Mexico, California, Arizona and Nevada.  Luisjoe competed in the 11yr old 85lbs junior division and boxed his way through the competition, reaching the finals and taking first place.

"It was some hard competition, because everybody wants to be the champion and nobody wants to lose." said Luisjoe.  "I mean you box some of the best boxers, champion to champion  from these other states. There are times that you have to ask yourself, do I really want to be here, because you train so hard and to come up short really hurts, I know I've been there."

Now LuisJoe is training for the National Silver Gloves tournament on January 30th thru February 2nd 2013 in Independence, Missouri. Coach Luis (JOE) Ybarra and coach Pedro Arellano, and Coach Leo Rivera from the Ybarras Boxing Club,  see Luisjoe Jr's hard work in and out of the gym,  Coach pedro says that Luisjoe deserves all he worked for because this was his 4th consecutive State Silver Glove title, and to top it off with the regional title is great. He's also won 3 consecutive State Golden Gloves titles, #2 National Junior Golden Glove title, 3 State Junior Olympic titles and #3 and #2 Ringside Worlds titles.

We are so proud of his hard work and commitment.  Also we would like to recognize Kyara Velez who won the the Colorado State silver gloves in the 11yr old, 101lbs female, but did not go to the regional because her father had just returned from Afghanistan and wanted to spend Christmas time with family in San Antonio TX.
