Springs Company tapped for new larger, thermochromic ink packaging

(Merit Media Relations). - - Chromatic Technologies Inc. (CTI), the specialized inks company whose products are seen on packages around the world, are now showing their true colors on the beverages from Hiball Energy on store shelves globally.

Formerly available in 10-ounce glass bottles, the new 16-ounce cans are the result of consumers wanting a larger size. The new packages, launched in March 2012, sport a series of white bubbles that turn an eye-catching blue when the cans reach a refreshing temperature of 45° F. (7.2° C.). (photo from PR Newswire)

Hiball Energy (www.hiballenergy.com) is the pioneer of energy drinks for the health-conscious consumer: premium,  refreshing, sparkling energy waters and juices made with organic and fair trade ingredients. Hiball Energy products are sold nationally at retailers and online at www.amazon.com. The new package offering for Hiball is produced by Ball Corporation (www.ball.com), the largest beverage can company in the world.

“Hiball saw the thermochromic ink as a way to highlight the fun properties of the product and not ‘just an indicator’ of the temperature of the drink,” explains Melanie Edwards of CTI. “The can comes to life with a visual exterior display of the sparkling bubbles inside. This was also a great incentive to encourage retailers to stock their product cold.”

CTI’s ‘thermochromic’ process involves cold temperatures impacting select portions of beverage bottle labels and cans that then turn a distinctive dark blue color, thus assuring the customer of a refreshingly chilled product.  CTI’s technology also provides the ability to indicate hot temperatures as well.  Where CTI has truly excelled is its ability to be applied to beverage cans during incredibly fast-paced, high-speed manufacturing line processes.

CTI’s expansion into new markets include security and anti-counterfeiting measures while another  CTI capability, a ‘photochromic’ process (colors changing due to exposure from light), is now available in the textiles market and can be printed via UV screen, UV flexo, water-based flexo and rotogravure printing as well. Such technology is a welcome addition for summer promotions or any consumer products that move through an indoor/outdoor transition.
