Press Release (Funkonnect Media)
4 Colorado Kids, a nonprofit organization based in Colorado Springs, is putting on a charity event June 29 to address the needs of Colorado’s teachers and kids.
With nearly one in seven Colorado kids living in poverty, many teachers and principals throughout the state are filling the gap out of their own pockets.
According to a survey published by the National Center for Education Statistics, 94 percent of teachers spend their own money on school supplies for their classrooms each year. On average, they can spend upwards of $554 each year, depending on the school classification, community type, instructional level and the socioeconomic status of the students they serve.
When 4 Colorado Kids heard about this issue, we wanted to do something to help, said Marshea Freant-Vitt, director of operations. The organization decided to dedicate a charity event to raise money to help this cause.
The result is an event called, “Adult Prom” All proceeds and donations go directly to the “Erase the Need” program. Any teacher in the state can directly apply for “Erase the Need” funds to acquire much-needed school supplies, classroom equipment, healthy snacks, summer sponsorships, educational resources and assistance for helping find family support services for children with disabilities.
“We want to empower school teachers and invest in critical tools that nurture a child’s untold potential and readiness to learn. Right now, the need in Colorado’s classrooms are so great, that we are unable to fulfill all of the requests we receive. This event helps us raise the necessary funds to make direct impact in our local communities,” said Marshea.
The 21+ only event will be on Saturday, June 29 at Ivywild School Main Gym, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Donations and tickets ($50 per person) can be purchased online at www.4cokids.org/prom. Food and drinks are included, along with a live DJ, dancing, crowning of Prom King and Queen, and an awards ceremony for best dressed and best dancers.
The event includes a silent auction that is open to the public and available online at https://prom4cokids19.ggo.bid/. Auction packages include autographed items by Baseball Hall of Famer Goose Gossage (New York Yankees), custom-designed necklace by Jack Miller Jewelry, Rock Climbing adventures with Apex Mountain School, and much more.
This event is presented by WellCare Pediatric Therapy Specialists and sponsored by Second Home Adult Day Center, Colorado Behavior and Learning Group, Homes R Us Colorado, Balance Chiropractic, Maverick Cleaning & Maintenance, Orange Theory Fitness and Peak View Behavioral Health.
About 4 Colorado Kids
4 Colorado Kids Mission
Our mission is to partner in making lives better for Colorado children, so they can thrive and feel empowered to achieve life and academic success.
4 Colorado Kids Vision
We believe every child deserves an even playing field, to have the necessities they need for peace of mind and confidence. This basic foundation lets kids know they are important members of our community.
4 Colorado Kids Organizational History
4 Colorado Kids was founded in June 2017 by a group of local business owners, teachers, therapists, parents and advocates, to help close the gap for local families and children living in poverty.
Many of our founding members were working in direct-care and supported families and children, many times with disabilities. As they provided services in-home or at area schools, they noticed first-hand that basic necessities were missing - such as food, weather-appropriate clothing, beds and blankets, school supplies and other important items, that are critical to the development and growth of a child.
4 Colorado Kids was formed to work one-one-one with families, community partners, health care providers, nonprofits, schools and other entities, to address the needs of children and ensure they receive the care they need in order to be successful.
In order to make the biggest impact and directly help families and kids, WellCare Inc., Pediatric Therapy Specialists, became the corporate sponsor to ensure that 100% of donations and financial gifts directly support kids and teachers living in the State of Colorado.
