Press Release (City of Colorado Springs) — Residents are invited to learn more about several projects planned for Memorial Park in 2018 during an upcoming open house. Many of the improvements are made possible by a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) totaling nearly $1.4 million and a $926,000 grant from the Colorado Springs Health Foundation.
The GOCO grant recognized the City of Colorado Springs and the Out the Door! Pikes Peak coalition for its work to get youth outdoors. Approximately half of the GOCO funds will be used to renovate the Prospect Lake Beach House, allowing it to serve as a launching area for outdoor activities and programs hosted by local non-profits. The Colorado Springs Health Foundation funding will be used to create additional walking paths, improve lighting and build new fitness stations to Memorial Park. A new Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers Memorial is another planned project and significant improvements will occur along Pikes Peak Avenue.
