Christel Aime likes to say he's from Colorado Springs, by way of Haiti. He was born in Haiti and lived there until coming to the Springs with some of the founders of the Springs Rescue Mission about 20 years ago. Now he makes his home in Fountain, Colorado where he recently opened the new Icy Y Hot, coffee and ice cream shop, at the Markets at Mesa Ridge.
Christel attended Colorado Bible College for a year when he first arrived in the area. He then decided to get into the health care field and earned a Bachelors in Nursing from UCCS (he had also attended Pikes Peak Community College). He has worked for the Memorial Hospital and Penrose Hospital systems and as a Director of Nursing in the Springs as well as in Denver.
He was salsa dancing at a club in Colorado Springs when he met his, now wife, Katarzyna. The two were married in 2008. It was also around that time that Christel decided to go into business for himself with Coach Home Care; a home health care provider. In 2011 he purchased one of the Appletree Assisted Living Centers in Fountain and renamed it Solange Assisted Living, after his mom, who passed away from cancer last year.
The Aime's moved to Fountain from Colorado Springs after purchasing the assisted living facility. They noted the absence of an ice cream parlor in the area and decided they should do something about that too. Christel says he has set out to create a shop that offers quality, healthy treats, that can also serve as a community gathering place and/or a place to get away and do some reading or web surfing (via their free wifi).
Ice Y Hot offers ice cream made in Colorado Springs by Josh and Johns. Their pastries come from Old Colorado City's La Baguette. They serve Ganoderma, certified organic coffee from Organo Gold. They even have alkaline water (8.5 ph) on hand. They also have Kettle Corn from Colorado Gourmet Kettle Corn (also based in Fountain), smoothies and sandwich croissants.
So if you were looking for a good excuse to indulge in a hot or cold treat, schedule a stop or a meeting at the new Ice Y Hot, 6912 Mesa Ridge Parkway in Fountain, right behind People's Bank. They're open from 6am to 9pm weekdays and 9am to 9pm Saturday and Sunday. Visit them on the web at www.IceHotCO.com and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/LocalIceYHot
