Help military families;  promote your business

By Ed Duffy

Fountain Fort Carson School District 8's Student2Student program is looking for donations for their welcome goody bags. The bags are given to students who transfer in during the school year, in large part military families who move around a lot.

The Student2Student program is sponsored by the Military Child Education Coalition and aims to assist transitioning students by providing immediate peer credibility, positive peer relationships and valued information about the school and the community. In short, to help them feel like they belong and are welcome here from day one. The welcome goody bags are just a part of the program.

School Counselor and S2S sponsor, Jennifer Trainor says they go through about 200 bags during the school year. Businesses can donate bags (to put the goodies in), flyers from your business, coupons, candy, even useful promotional items like pens, notepads, magnets, calendars, frisbees and hacky sacs. (they're picking up a load of our Fountain Valley Street Maps today).

This is a win/win program if ever there was one. Welcome a military family (non military transfer students also get the same red-carpet treatment), while promoting your business. There's no fee for participation. Just provide the stuff. Call Jennifer Trainor at 719-358-4388 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
